The Perfect Gift: "Sylvia Sidney Needlepoint Book"

The Perfect Gift: "Sylvia Sidney Needlepoint Book"

I belong to the Big Apple Knitters Guild, and volunteered as their program chair, a post that ended when my 2 year tenure was complete, allowing me to spend more time on Daisy's Needlepoint Kits.

One of the members, who was aware of Daisy's, gifted me this wonderful book, Sylvia Sidney Needlepoint Book, written by the actress Sylvia Sidney with Alfred Allan Lewis, (Reinhold Book Corp. 1968.)

The book is full of photos that show how Sidney went about creating her designs, from drawing to canvas to stitches. It's a wonderful book, and if you can get your hands on it, I heartily recommend it. (You can try the Internet Archive for a digital version.)

On a personal level, many of her designs are right up my alley, given that they were done in 1968, and as I've written before, that era is a major influence on my designs.

Check these out.

And of course, what fiber arts book from the 60s would be complete without some designs featuring the signs of the zodiac.

She is very fond of plants and animals.  Her pugs are near and dear to her.

What is thy bidding, Master?

Do you own this book? If so, let me know your favorite designs. If you wind up acquiring it, drop me a line and tell me what you think.
